Shares of power-plant operators rose as traders rotated back into defensive sectors, after the Federal Reserve's lukewarm endorsement of economic growth.

Utilities and other dividend-oriented sectors fell out of favor in the last several months as investors dived into fast-growing and fast-appreciating economically cyclical shares. Utilities have regained some popularity after two triple-digit sell-offs in the Dow Jones Industrial Average caused a reappraisal of risk.
