Shares of manufacturing and transportation companies fell as cyclical sectors took the brunt of a near-repeat of Monday's stock market drubbing. The similar degree of losses across economically sensitive stock-market sectors Thursday suggested that the funds who reportedly caused some of Monday's crash by unwinding "short volatility" trades were active again on Thursday, said Jeffrey Pavlik, managing member of investment firm Pavlik Capital Management. Boeing is in talks to buy aerospace parts maker Woodward, The Wall Street Journal reported. Any acquisition of Woodward, which is valued at about $4.5 billion, could lead to an offloading of the company's power unit, said analysts at brokerage Jefferies.
