Shares of manufacturing and transportation companies rose on signs Congress would increase defense spending as part of a new budget deal.

Congressional leaders said Wednesday they have reached an agreement on a two-year budget deal, increasing military spending by about $80 billion in 2018 and potentially ending months of debate about spending and immigration that culminated in a government shutdown in January.

Shares of defense contractors such as Northrop Grumann and General Dynamics rose.
