Renault SA (RNO.FR) said Friday that it has joined a partnership called E-VIA FLEX-E to form a high-power charging network for electric vehicles in southern Europe.

The French car maker said the partnership includes Enel SpA (ENEL.MI), Nissan Motor Co Ltd (7201.TO), Electricite de France SA (EDF.FR), Verbund AG (VER.VI) and IBIL, a joint venture between Repsol SA (REP.MC) and the Basque energy agency.

The project will start at the end of 2018 with eight charging stations in Italy, two in France and four in Spain.

The charging network is part of a European Commission program that invests in transport infrastructure, and the commission will fund half of the project's total budget of EUR6.9 million, Renault said.
