Sibanye Gold Ltd. (SGL.JO) said Friday that all employees that had been trapped underground at its Beatrix operations in South Africa had been safely returned to the surface.

The miner said that a severe storm on Wednesday had caused a power surge and outage at three shafts at the Beatrix gold mine, trapping the majority of night-shift employees working there underground.

While a number of staff were safely rescued immediately after the storm, one shaft saw wider damage to its control systems and generator, trapping 955 employees underground. The company said that all those workers are now safe.
