Fort Worth Museum of Science and History to Host Veteran NASA Astronaut and Asteroid Expert Dr. Tom Jones on September 21

Dr. Jones to Discuss Asteroids and New Resources for Protecting Earth from Dangerous Impacts

WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT: There are more than one million asteroids in our solar system with the potential to impact Earth. We have identified to date only about one percent of these dangerous asteroids. Learn from Dr. Jones about planetary defense, and how asteroids are key in our knowledge of the origins of our solar system and resources for future space exploration.

Dr. Jones will be accompanied by Danica Remy, President of B612 Foundation, whose mission is protect Earth from dangerous asteroids. Ms. Remy is a co-founder of Asteroid Day, a UN sanctioned day of education and awareness about asteroids, held around the world on June 30.

About Astronaut Tom Jones

Thomas D. Jones, PhD, scientist, author, pilot, and veteran NASA astronaut, flew on four NASA space shuttle missions to Earth orbit and led three spacewalks to install the centerpiece of the International Space Station, the American Destiny laboratory. He spent 53 days working and living in space.

Tom is the author of several space and aviation books: Ask the Astronaut, Planetology (written with Ellen Stofan), Hell Hawks! The Untold Story of the American Fliers…(with Robert F. Dorr), and Sky Walking: An Astronaut’s Memoir. The Wall Street Journal named Sky Walking one if its “Five Best” books on space. Tom served on the NASA Advisory Council, and is a board member of the Association of Space Explorers and the Astronauts Memorial Foundation.
